Andy Murray's future Davis Cup commitment could be wavering as a 3-2 weekend playoff loss to Austria doomed the country to the lower reaches of the international team competition.
While the world No. 4 US Open finalist won his two singles matches, the decision by captain John Lloyd to rest his best player in the key doubles will likely have serious repercussions.
And Murray himself is now in question as to whether it's all worth it as his ATP career takes off big-time. "If I make a sacrifice I think every single person in the team should be willing to make those sacrifices and say they will give it all they've got," he complained.
"I want them to say they are physically able to play even if they have to play three days of five-set matches. Then I know everyone on the team wants to play as badly as I do."
Murray could have been aiming his words at teammate Alex Bogdanovic - seemingly the only Serb-born in the game not enjoying success - who lost his sixth consecutive live rubber in the event as Austria prevailed in the fifth and deciding rubber.
"Boggo" has also dropped all seven of his Wimbledon wild card matches in the first round.
Murray couldn't be bothered to attend the final-rubber embarrassment at Wimbledon, instead watching on television and relaying tips to Lloyd via phone.
And the captain himself was having hindsight after leaving Murray out of the doubles mix alongside his brother Jamie. "If Andy had played the doubles it would have been closer and I'd like another go at it," said Lloyd.
