Andy Murray has gotten a big boost from Greg Rusedski, the last Briton to play a US Open final. Murray lost to Roger Federer in New York 11 years after Rusedski was taken down for the New York title by Australian Patrick Rafter.
“Andy will do more than Tim and I did”, Rusedski said in a television commentary. “He's the new No. 4 in the world, he's only going to get better and better. I'm sure he will get to No. 1 - the future for him is Grand Slam finals”.
Rusedski still says that Murray's fitness - fast improving under his new team of coaches - could be his only weak link. “The only question - will he stay healthy enough? That's one of the most important things we need to consider”.
Murray has shown that he serious about gaining strength through tough fitness work - and has flexed his muscles on the Popeye style on occasion to make his point.
Added Rusedski: “There are a lot of positives to take out of the defeat even though he would have been desperate to win his first Grand Slam”.
