Four Italians players will stand up for their rights, with plans to sue the ATP in a Miami court over bans and suspensions handed down nearly a year ago for modest online bettting.
“A Miami law studio will defend us for violation of privacy”, Giorgio Galimberti told Milan media. “The site on which we bet a few euros didn't have the right to reveal that data because it was prior to the agreement made with the various sporting associations (on online betting by players)”.
Galimberti, along with compatriots Potito Starace, Daniele Bracciali, Federico Luzzi are all taking the legal action after serving bans of up to six months for the online activity.
The suite is another blow to the ATP, now searching for a new boss for 2009 as Etienne de Villiers leaves under pressure after less than three years at the top post.
The Italian suit was announced just days after the ATP had to give up on a 13-month investigation into alleged match-fixing, clearing No. 6 Russian Nikolay Davydenko of any wrong-doing in a reportedly suspicions loss from August, 2007, in Poland.
The Italian group wil also sue the online betting firm which released details of their accounts to ATP investigators.
