Number one seed Richard Gasquet will take on Russia’s Teimuraz Gabashvili in the quarterfinals in Bucharest.
Gasquet has never played Gabashvili before. The Russian is ranked 97 in the world and he spends much of his time playing Challenger events. Gabashvili produced a huge first round upset when he took out the number five seed and rising tour star Ernests Gulbis. He then beat wild card Adrian Cruciat in round two.
Unfortunately for Gabashvili, Gasquet comes into the tournament in Bucharest with something to prove. The Frenchman suffered a first round exit from the US Open several weeks ago at the hands of Tommy Haas. Though Gabashvili played well to get the win over Gulbis, he is not likely to enjoy a similar result with Gasquet.
Gasquet has arguably the best backhand in the ATP. When he is playing well, as he is at the moment, he is unlikely to lose to a player ranked so much lower than he is. Expect Gasquet to keep Gabashvili out of position with his sleek groundstrokes. Gasquet in straight sets.
