Andy Roddick and Fernando Gonzalez have both fired their way into the 4th round and a match up with each other.
Andy Roddick played a rather pedestrian match to take out Andreas Seppi. The first set was great for Roddick while Seppi seemed to be somewhere else. In the second and third sets Roddick was crusing on his own serve but couldn't break Seppi as much due to the Italian raising his leve of play. Once it got to the business end of each set, it was clear that Roddick would be the victor.
Seppi actually served for the third set at 5-4 but couldn't get the job done. The bad news for Roddick is that this particular style of game will do the job against Seppi but not against the big boys. He has Gonzalez next who he has a good record over, but it will be a very entertainging night match.
Fernando Gonzalez played very well in taking out Jarkko Nieminen. The forehand was really clicking and his backhand was nice as well. Nieminen caught fire and took the third set in a perfectly played tiebreaker. In the 4th, Nieminen fell on his elbow early on and Gonzalez took advantage of it and won the set 6-1. Fernando looks really good and could possibly take out crowd fave Roddick in the next round.
Andy Roddick says he still waiting to see if skipping Olympics will pay off in New York.
