Novak Djokovic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga both got past their second round tests, but Marat Safin suffered another meltdown against Robredo.
Novak Djokovic def. Robert Kendrick 7-6(8), 6-4, 6-4
Kendrick held his own against Djokvic for much of the match, especially the first set where he had a few set points in the long tiebreak. Djokovic played solid but unspectacular, just enough to get the job done. No double faults and only 13 errors. Kendrick perhaps suffered from the opposite. He was swinging too aggressively, hitting 7 double faults. Mostly from trying to blast a second serve. The ankle that Novak had to take a timeout for in his previous match looked to be non-existant. He takes on Marin Cilic in a Serb-Croat battle in the 3rd round.
Djokovic says ther was no need to tape his problem ankle for his 2nd round match.

Did you know that... Thomas Johansson did not have to face any of the top-10 players when he won the Australian Open in 2002.
