Andy Roddick has turned to master multi-tasker Patrick McEnroe in an effort to rescue his game at the US Open. The 42-year-old younger brother of John already has plenty on his plate, serving as US Davis Cup captain, working for the USTA and doing television commentary.
Roddick decided to bring his captain on board for the Grand Slam fortnight after amicably parting company with his own worn-out elder brother John, who has worked with him on the road for several seasons.
“John's been feeling the effects of the road for a little while. When we first got together, it was temporary,” said eighth seed Roddick. “He was just helping me out and then all of a sudden it's two and a half years later”.
Roddick knows he will have to find another coaching solution after New York little more than six months after splitting with Jimmy Connors.
“I obviously respect Patrick's opinion, and we get along great, and we're pretty close”, said Roddick. “I know his family well, and his baby girl and his wife”.
“But at the same time, he captains our Davis Cup team. So who knows if that's a conflict of interest in any way, shape or form with the other players”.
“It (a permanent arrangement) is not really even worth discussing, because I don't think it's in the realm of possibility. It was pretty obvious who would be the best fit to help me out for this, just this tournament”.

Did you know that... Thomas Johansson did not have to face any of the top-10 players when he won the Australian Open in 2002.
