Night 5 of the US Open will feature a blockbuster match between Andy Roddick and Ernests Gulbis.
Gulbis will turn 20 a day after this match, on August 30th, and if this match goes long, may turn it during the match. Ernests is ranked 40th in the world and has a stellar game. He, along with Del Potro and a few others will represent the newest wave of players in a few years. Last year he made the 4th round taking out Robredo en route.
Gulbis has a fantastic game. At 6'3'', he has a stellar serve, great groundstrokes and can close the net as well. His only drawback so far in his career is that he is a bit hit or miss. He can be erratic at times from the back of the court but when they are going in, watch out.
Roddick is looking to rebound after a rough summer to have a fine result here. He looked fired up and ecstatic in his first round victory over Santoro and will need to bring the exact same tools to the match against Gulbis. Roddick will need to keep his aggresion to the max because if he begins to toss up some passive loopy shots, Gulbis will eat them up.
All in all, this should be a very fun match as both men play entertaining games. This match can go anything from Gulbis in 3 to Roddick in 5 to anywhere in between. Enjoy this one.

RickyD: are you putting money on that prediction? I'm backing a five-setter.

literally? No. Would I make a side bet on that with someone in the crowd if I was at the match? Yes.
Unfortunately I am not getting there until Saturday so I won't see it unless it rains.

Well, we were both wrong. Luckily I didn't have any money on it. Gulbis put up a great fight but AR was on fire after a sticky start and had the bit between his teeth.

Did you know that... Pete Sampras has been ranked number 1 during the longest period of time, 286 weeks.

Gulbis will win this one in straight sets. The best part about it is that the Arthur Ashe crowd will actually be surprised.
