  • US Open - Andy Murray battles Llodra in round two action

     - Great Britain’s Andy Murray continues his bid for his first ever Grand Slam title on Thursday, where he will take on the Frenchman Michael Llodra.

Murray has had his best summer results of his career coming into the US Open. He first made an impact in Toronto, where he dispensed of Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals. It was Murray’s first win ever over the world number three. The Scot went out to Rafael Nadal in the semifinals. The following week, Murray improved on his Toronto result in Cincinnati. There, he carved his way through the draw to meet Novak Djokovic once again - this time in the final. Murray beat Djokovic for the second time to earn his first Masters shield. His only big disappointment was a first round exit at the Olympic games to Yen-Hsun Lu of Taipei.

Michael Llodra of France is a more accomplished doubles player (most often with countryman Arnaud Clement), but he has had some good singles results in 2008. He had a tournament win on the fast hard courts in Rotterdam and he reached the round of 16 at the French Open. Thanks to his doubles play, Llodra is an accomplished volleyer. Unfortunately for the Frenchman however, Murray’s game matches up well against serve-volleyers.

The Scotsman rarely gets rattled at aggressive play. One of the reasons Murray’s game is so effective, is that he absorbs his opponent’s pace. For a player like Llodra, that spells disaster. Murray in straight sets.
