  • Paes quits as Indian Davis Cup captain after Olympic truce with rival Bhupathi

     - The Olympic peace treaty brokered among the Indian doubles team has broken down with the end of the Games, with Leander Paes resigning as the country's Davis Cup captain.

The man who played the skipper's role for two years amid bad blood between himself and former doubles partner Mahesh Bhupathi called it a day a week after the pair lost in the Beijing quarter-finals to eventual champion Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka.

The reign of Paes was marked by a players' revolt and required a peace initiative to get Paes to team with Bhupathi at the Olympics. The 35-year-old will stay on the Davis team as a doubles player for September's play-off tie in Romania.

Paes won Olympic silver 12 years ago in Atlanta and has 83 overall Davis wins and 31 defeats since a 1990 debut.

Paes and Bhupathi, holder of a trio of Grand Slam doubles crowns from 1999, had had their ins and outs personally despite jelling when required on court.

Bhupathi and Paes were just awesome to watch in the late 90s and early 2000s.
