After two heart-breaking losses, Novak Djokovic was the one able to bounce back to take a medal while James Blake must take consolation in his defeat of Federer and get ready for the US Open.
Novak breezed through the first set as neither men really had any fire or desire to take this match. A few good points were played here and there, but mostly neither looked as intense as they did in their previous matches, and understandably so.
The second was a bit more intense, but Djokovic proved why he is a tier above Blake in terms of tennis prowess. As the set went into the tiebreak, Blake had an astounding first serve percentage of zero. Against a tiebreak titan like Djokovic, that simply will not get it done. Both men were pounding the ball hard, but the heart and fire that were in both their intense eyes in the semi matches was noticeably absent.
Djokovic took the match and at the end, in a football style celebration, Djokovic attempted to rip off his shirt but after failing to do so, had to remove it the conventional way.
Both men will now head to the US Open full of confidence, especially James considering he took out Federer.
