     - Rafael Nadal gets the surprise of the tournament, Jurgen Melzer in his quarterfinal match on Thursday. Nadal is going for his first ever gold medal.

The Olympics has been good to the top three seeds. Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Nadal all remain in the tournament. Nadal’s path to the quarters include wins over Potito Starace of Italy, Lleyton Hewitt of Australia, and Russia’s Igor Andreev. Only Starace managed to take a set from the Spaniard. Nadal’s form has gotten better over the course of the tournament, which is bad news for the Melzer camp. Nadal is the current holder of the French Open and Wimbledon titles and has an ATP best record of 67-8 for the season.

Austria’s Jurgen Melzer’s record for 2008 is a less impressive 18-18, a number boosted of late with his run to the final in Kitzbuhel, where he lost to Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro. Melzer’s road to the quarters was marked with an impressive win over the number ten player in the world, Stanislas Wawrinka.

The tournament will most likely stop here for Melzer. Nadal has been in good form and Melzer does not have a real weapon to hurt Nadal with. Nadal in straight sets.
