Fernando Gonzalez and Paul-Henri Mathieu have both looked good all week. The winner of this duel will face Blake or Federer in the semis with a fine shot at a medal.
Paul-Henri has looked solid but not spectacular this week. Then again, he hasn't needed to raise his game to the top as of yet because his opponents haven't been playing well or had been injured. His first serve is low in terms of %, but when he gets it in he is in total control. His groundstrokes also look solid, but not outstanding.
Fernando Gonzalez, on the other hand has been blowing people away all week. Rochus, Cilic, and Sun have all gone down in straights to Fernando. These Beijing courts are perfectly suited to the Chilean's game. Its playing fast enough to where his serve and especially the forehand are devastating shots but not too fast to where his timing is off. The medium-low bounce is also great for him. These are perfect courts for Gonzalez and he is looking more and more comfortable on them with each passing match.
Their head to head is 3-3 and they have played some great matches in the past. Gonzalez looks to be in better form but Mathieu knows how to play him. This one will be good.
