Will it be unlucky 13 for Juan Martin Del Potro ? The 3rd seeded Argentine extended his winning run to 12 matches last night but he'll now have to step up a level against the big serving Mardy Fish
Del Potro toughed out a 7-6(6), 6-2 win over Amer Delic last night with some solid serving (73% first serves). Fish had it a little more comfortable, winning 6-4, 6-4 against Florent Serra who'd upset Fernando Verdasco
There could be a few tiebreaks in this one, both men possessing massive serves and love to get the first strike in. Fish could do with just making a few more first serves, he's been getting around 55% in at the moment and if he can bring that up into the 60s it'll make a lot of difference. As a silver medallist from Athens, it was strange that he opted out of Bejing, maybe the intense humidity out there was a factor, something a lot of players will struggle with
Fish won the only previous meeting between the two; 6-1, 7-6(9) in Memphis but that was 18 months ago.
This run is very handy for Fish who has a sackful of points to defend in a couple of weeks time having made the New Haven final last year
Prediction: Fish to end Del Potro's streak in 2
