  • ATP Los Angeles: Andy Roddick vs Denis Gremelmayr

    8/9/08 7:33 PM | David Cox
     - Roddick bids to make his second final of the year tonight after Dubai in March against unseeded giant-killer Denis Gremelmayr who's already taken out Feliciano Lopez and Marat Safin this week

Roddick's been in a string of semis this year. Aswell as Dubai where he beat Djokovic before winning the title against Lopez, he's made semis in Miami, Rome and at Queens club. At Miami and Queens he fell to opponents who were simply on fire that day, superlative performances from Nicolay Davydenko and Rafael Nadal. Rome was the harshest of all, Roddick came into his match with Stanislas Wawrinka as slight favourite but suffered a shoulder injury after just a few games. It kept him out of Roland Garros and continued to affect for the next 2 months

Gremelmayr is a great athlete and drove Safin to distraction on Friday with his retrieving. He hits very flat from the back and has a handy leftie forehand. He had a very close win over Lopez, it was 7-5, 7-5

Ranked at 88 he was in stunning form on the clay, making the semis of Estoril and then defeating Blake and Almagro to reach the same stage in Barcelona

    Prediction: Roddick in 2
