  • Cincinnati preview - Andy Murray vs. Carlos Moya

    8/1/08 4:23 AM | Cheryl Murray
     - Andy Murray will try for his second consecutive semifinal berth on Friday when he takes on surprise quarterfinalist Carlos Moya.

With Roger Federer once again knocked out of a hard court tournament early, the top half has opened up beautifully for Andy Murray. The Scotsman has never made a Masters-Series final and never before has he had such an opportunity to do so.

Carlos Moya comes into the match at a distinct disadvantage; due to a weather delay on Wednesday night, the Spanish veteran was forced to play two sets of his second round match against Nikolay Davydenko and his third round match against Igor Andreev just two hours later. In addition to this, he did so during the hottest part of the day.

Murray will surely exploit Moya’s fatigue factor. The Scot is an intelligent player and uses every tool at his disposal to try to win a match. He will yank Moya from corner to corner Andre Agassi-style until Moya is completely out of steam.

The two men have met on just one other occasion, in 2006 in Toronto. Murray won that encounter in comfortable straight sets 6-2, 6-4. The quarterfinals are a good result for Moya, who has struggled for most of 2008. Unfortunately for the Spaniard, his run will likely end with Murray. The Scotsman in two.
