The second leg of the back to back North American Masters events started Monday with the top quarter moving through in quick fashion.
12 seed Tommy Robredo, more a clay courter, was able to demolish Mardy Fish 6-2, 6-2. It wasn't as if Robredo did much, as Fish hit 38 errors in only 16 games. Robredo served at 47% and only lost 6 points on his serve. Fish was abysmal. Robredo plays Soderling in the next round.
Jose Acasuso was supposed to play against Mario Ancic in the first round but th Croat had to pull out with a stomach virus infection, something that is going around. Monfils also looked to be quite sick during his demolition of Donald Young. Acasuso instead played Paul Capdevile, who he beat in 3 sets. Chucho will spar with Karlovic in the 2nd round.
Robby Ginepri was able to destroy Jonas Bjorkman 6-0, 7-6. The first set was simply a clinic as Robby could not miss and Bjorkman was having trouble finding the court. The second set was much more entertaining as both men played better but not outstanding tennis. Ginepri took it 7-5 in the tiebreaker and will face off with Federer in the next round.
