  • Federer rates the Games as high as a Grand Slam

    7/29/08 3:17 PM | Johan Lindahl
     - Roger Federer rates the Olympics at the prestige level of a Grand Slam as he enters the most frantic part of the packed-out ATP summer calendar.

“I've already won 12 Grand Slams - another Grand Slam here or there doesn't make that much of a difference,” said the nonchalant Swiss, set to open play at the Cincinnati Masters after an early upset last week in Toronto.

"It's nice to get them (Slams), but the Olympic Games is something I have never been able to get. I didn't get that many chances obviously because it's only once every four years".

Federer is keen to carry the flag again for Switzerland in the Augusts 8 opening ceremonies, his 27th birthday. His disappointment in Athens four years ago with a second-round loss to Tomas Berdych will hopefully be just a bitter memory when he takes to the court in China.

"It's definitely something, representing Switzerland, and being the flag bearer in 2004. All of these things make it a very special event for me".

Roger Federer gives too much importance to even a small game, small in terms of it's popularity or it may be from the point of view of it's prize money , yet he always try to give his best shot.I think that is the best part of him.

bla bla bla ...bla bla bla.... Federer keeps on chanting so many promises. I just hope he delivers even just a glimpse of the old Roger this time.

Bless his heart. Does he really think he can bluff his way with words to keep his No.1 slot? He knows, and we all know, he is now very vulnerable. Rafa refuses to be drawn into the debate about his chances of taking Roger's crown away from him but it is looking more and more likely that it could happen sooner rather than later. You only have to look at Mirka's face during recent matches to see that in their heart of hearts he and she know it too. By the way, how much longer is she going to put up with being the fiancee rather than his wife?
