  • Cincinnati preview - Richard Gasquet vs. Michael Llodra

    7/29/08 4:28 PM | Cheryl Murray
     - Frenchmen Richard Gasquet and Michael Llodra clash for the second time in so many weeks.

Richard Gasquet was the only player to take a set from Rafael Nadal at the Canadian Open last week in Toronto. The talented Frenchman struggled through the clay court season, skipping the French Open altogether, citing stress and pressure as the reason.

Gasquet has had an inconsistent year in 2008. He struggled through the clay season. He skipped the French Open completely citing stress and pressure. He came back strong at Wimbledon, making the round of 16 before losing a heartbreaker to Andy Murray. Gasquet was up two sets in that match before going down in five. He has since made the finals in Stuttgart and the quarterfinals in Toronto last week.

Michael Llodra, ranked 36 in the world, fell to Gasquet in the first round in Toronto last week. It was their first ever career meeting on the ATP tour. Llodra actually won the tour event in Rotterdam and made the round of 16 at the French Open. He has struggled since that time, also losing in the first round at Wimbledon to a resurgent Mario Ancic.

Expect a similar result as last week. Gasquet in straight sets.
