     - With Roger Federer knocked out by Gilles Simon, Serbian star Novak Djokovic is the undisputed favorite to win in Toronto, but first he will have to get past Sweden’s Robin Soderling.

Except for a strange second round loss at Wimbledon to Marat Safin three weeks ago, Novak Djokovic has had a fantastic 2008. He is the title holder of the Australian Open and also won Masters events in Rome on clay and at Indian Wells. Currently ranked number three behind Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, Djokovic has earned enough points that at certain times in history, he would have been the number one player in the world. It is somewhat to his misfortune that he is competing against such difficult opposition.

Robin Soderling has had a bit of an up and down year. He is currently ranked 49 in the world and has not yet won a title in 2008, though he reached the finals in Memphis and Rotterdam. Soderling has a good game for hardcourts; it is his consistency that is lacking moreso than his actual skill. Good though he may be, Djokovic will be a difficult prospect for the Swede. The two men have never met in an ATP match, but the Serb goes in as the clear favorite.

Soderling may have enough good tennis in him to take a set, but in the end it should be Djokovic who is the victor. Djokovic in three.
