  • Kohlschreiber and Del Potro advance in Stuttgart

    7/11/08 9:14 AM | Jonathan Morgan
Kohlschreiber and Del Potro advance in Stuttgart Phillip Kohlschreiber took out Yuri Schukin 6-3 6-3, while Del Potro fought off Bolelli in a 3 setter.

Phillip Kohlschreiber also increased his good record on German turf with an easy win over Schukin. He has had great results in Germany recently and Stuttgart fits that description. He will face Juan Martin Del Potro, the tall, young Argentine. Kohli played an extremely solid match, aggresive and smart tennis being played.

As for Del Potro, he looked to get his year back on track and fulfill the potential much of Argentina has in him. 19 year old Del Potro served well, winning 89% of his first serve points, and went 3 for 13 in break points to get himself the win. He and Kohlschreiber will contest a fun quarterfinal on Friday.

Eduardo Schwank also advanced rather easily. He beat Andreas Beck 7-6, 6-2. He threw down 11 aces and was not broken once. Schwank has had a great season, and will play in the semi vs. Jan Hernych. Hernych had taken out Brian Dabul to reach the quarters. Hernych is the lucky loser than gained Nadal's spot in the draw when he pulled out.
