    - Marin Cilic and Igor Andreev do battle for a spot in the semifinals.

    Marin Cilic advanced to the quarterfinals by serving number two seed Paul-Henri Mathieu off the court in the second round. Cilic is a big server and generally not considered a threat on a clay court. The way he played against Mathieu, however, proves that he is a threat on any court.

    Igor Andreev had some good results so far in 2008. His game is more effective on slower courts, as evidenced by the quarterfinal results he had in Monte Carlo and Miami. He does not fare as well on grass, but now that he is back in his milieu, he is a danger again.

    Cilic beat Andreev the only other time they’ve met each other. The meeting took place on carpet, however and does little to help predict the outcome of a claycourt match. Andreev is the better claycourt player of the two. Cilic has a big, booming serve, but clay neutralizes his biggest weapon to some extent. He might give Andreev trouble if he serves at a high percentage, but in the end Andreev should be able to pull out the win.
