  • Wawrinka doesn't yet rate Federer treatment in Gstaad

     - Swiss Stan Wawrinka may have saved face for Gstaad organisers by getting past his doubles partner and into the quarter-finals. But the No. 10 still has to prove himself to earn the kind of treatment afforded to Roger Federer when he played the event twice.

Federer was famously awarded a cow after coming to Gstaad to honour his playing commitment in 2003 the day after winning the first of his five Wimbledon titles.

Besides the bovine treat, he got the top suite in this VIP village and won the title a year later when he played again.

Not so yet for Stan. The second Swiss is playing this week while staying in a regular five-star hotel room instead of the suite once lavished on Federer.

And after his laboured three-set win (two tiebreaks) over doubles partner Stephane Bohli, the top seed and draw card knows he has to pick up his pace.

It's been all of nothing for the French-speaker in Gstaad, with Wawrinka losing four times in an opening round while playing the 2005 final against former French open champion Gaston Gaudio in 2005.

“I'm very satisfied to get through. Stephane is a good friend of mine. Of course there is pressure on me here because of what I've done. But my form is the result of hard worked this season”, said the Rome Masters finalist Wawrinka.
