French qualifier Jeremy Chardy posts a good win over Luis Horna.
Frenchman Jeremy Chardy outlasted Peru’s Luis Horna in a exhausting, grinding clay court match. The two men battled in three sets for over two and a half hours.
There were many missed opportunities in this match for both players. Chardy won the first set tiebreaker and pushed the second set to a tiebreaker as well. He had a couple of match points in the second set, but Horna managed to fight them off and took the second set. It was something of a strange result in the second because Chardy was by far the more dominant on serve. The Frenchman had five break point chances on Horna’s serve but converted none of them. Good clutch play sealed the set for the man from Peru.
For most of the third set, Horna was the better player. He served for the match at 5-3, but Chardy broke. Horna would fail to win another game. Chardy’s next match is against fellow qualifier Dominik Meffert.
