Roger Federers moves comfortably into round two at Wimbledon with a straight-set win over Dominik Hrbaty. Other winners on Day 1 included Lleyton Hewitt and Fernando Gonzalez.
Roger Federer d. Dominik Hrbaty 6-3, 6-2, 6-2
Knowing he was playing a match that he really had no chance whatsoever of winning, Hrbaty at least made sure he had fun. The veteran Slovak hit a ridiculous winning lob while facing the complete wrong direction at 1-4 in the first set and he celebrated that with the crowd to no end (and for good reason because it was an unbelievable shot). Then at 2-5 in the third with Federer preparing to serve for the match, Hrbaty went and sat next to the world No. 1 and chatted throughout the changeover. Federer later said that Hrbaty told him this was most likely his last Wimbledon and he wanted to enjoy it. More importantly, Federer looked to be in solid form during the match. The Swiss fired 39 winners to just 10 unforced and blasted 10 aces without a single double-fault. Federer also refused to allow Hrbaty a single break point. It should be a little bit more difficult for the five-time defending champion against Robin Soderling in round two.
Lleyton Hewitt d. Robin Haase 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-3, 6-7(1), 6-2
This thriller turned out to be just a typical Hewitt victory: wearing down a more powerful opponent in five tough sets by grinding it out, getting too many balls back in the court, and simply refusing to lose. Haase showed off his massive potential throughout the match and proved he can handle pressure-packed moments with dominant performances in both tiebreakers. In the end, however, the gutsy Australian took advantage of his opponent's mounting errors and Hewitt prevailed in a relatively comfortable fifth set. Haase fired 28 aces during the match, but 52 unforced errors proved to be his undoing.
Fernando Gonzalez d. 7-6(5), 7-5, 7-5
Gonzalez improved his career record against Ginepri to 5-0 with his victory on Monday. While it came in straight sets (Ginepri is now 1-13 in sets against the Chilean), the win was far from routine. Ginepri had two set points when Gonzalez served to stay in the opening frame of play at 5-6, but he squandered those and then saw his opponent race to a 6-0 lead in the tiebreaker. Gonzalez dropped the next three points before closing out the set with a serve that Ginepri could not handle. Sets two and three were almost as tight; both times Ginepri served at 5-6 and both times he failed to stay in the respective sets. Gonzalez's third and final break of serve propelled him into round two, where the No. 15 seed will take on Simone Bolelli.

Its nice that the match report is providing the information regarding winners and errors! nice.weldun roger, but u cant say much about form until the 4th rnd i believe coz the court conditions wll change considerably!!!
So, do you think he can win now. He just got through the first round while surendering only 7 games when his "threat" Novak Djokovec lost twice as much. He is totally going to win.
I never knew you could conclude a player will win a grand slam tournament by their performance in the first round. They should totally give him the trophy now and not make him have to play the next six rounds!
:) couldn't agree more with tenstar
djoker is out of wimbledon. maybe, finally,he learn to respect other players and put all of energy in his tennis
