All eyes will be on Novak Djokovic as he starts his challenge which he hopes will end in a 2nd grand slam title 2 weeks from now. However there are plenty of other big names in action on day 1 in that section
Juan Carlos Ferrero (21) vs Sam Querrey
Ferrero has improved hugely on grass in the past few years and last year achieved his best ever run at SW19. After coming through 2 sets to love down in round 1, he then dispatched Blake and Tipsarevic en route to the quarters where he stretched Roger Federer to 5 sets.
He's had some good wins in important tournaments this year (Nalbandian, Ancic and Nadal) but hasn't been able to make that crucial run to the latter stages and will have been disappointed at going out at the first hurdle in the French. Querrey is a dangerous opponent on most surfaces and is up to 42 in the world at the moment having won Las Vegas this year. However he has a dire record on grass, losing all 3 matches on the surface last year and going out at the first hurdle in Queens to a French qualifier
Prediction: Ferrero in 3
Marcos Baghdatis (10) vs Steve Darcis
Baghdatis is a big favourite at SW19 having thrilled the crowds over the past 2 years, reaching the semis in 2006 and then the quarters last year beating Nalbandian and Davydenko before losing a thrilling 5 setter to Novak Djokovic. Having taken most of the clay court season off he found some form last week in Halle, winning a couple of matches before losing 6-4, 6-4 to Federer. Belgium's Darcis is enjoying the best form of his career at the moment, currently ranked 52 and in February he picked up the Memphis title. He has little experience on grass having chosen instead to play clay challengers this time last year and the serve-volley expertise of Michael Llodra did for him in a close match in Halle a couple of weeks ago
Prediction: Not the most straightforward of starts for Baghdatis but he comes through in 4
