Long-odds Latin hopes for Wimbledon have been diminished slightly by three injury defections while British No. 1 Andy Murray was testing a thumb injury in an exhibition match as the Grand Slam countdown continues.
With less than a week to go before the start of play at the All England club, Spain's former French Open winner Carlos Moya has been forced out with a shoulder problem.
The 31-year-old has never been a major force on the grass, achieving his best result with a fourth-round appearance four years ago. He lost in the 2007 first round to Tim Henman after a two-year absence from the SW19 lawns.
A pair of Argentine claycourters will likely not be missed when play begins on Monday. Juan Monaco withdrew with a back problem Juan Chela is out with a shoulder injury.
Murray, the lone British home hope, was testing his thumb at an exhibition in Kent, facing Serb Janko Tipsarevic. The Scot says he pulled up well after resting at the weekend and should be fit for the June 23 start of Wimbledon.
