  • Federer and Baghdatis look to advance in Halle on Thursday

     - After routine first round wins, the next round gets a bit tougher for top seed Federer and Baghdatis

    Roger Federer vs. Jan Vacek

Federer is the #1 player in the world and hasnt lost a match on grass in 6 years. Jan Vacek is a 32 year old veteran who hasn't beaten anyone in the top 500 this year and spends most of his time on the challenger tour.

Advantage Federer. Vacek is 6'6'', so he should presumably posess a good serve that can be effective on grass. Simply looking at the results, however, he should really have no shot against Roger. Federer, however, has a problem playing players way below him in the rankings. Ramirez-Hidalgo in Monte Carlo, for example, where he had to come from 1-5 down in the 3rd to win.

    Marcos Baghdatis vs. Fabrice Santoro

Baghdatis is taking on the ever challenging Fabrice Santoro, the Magician. Baghdatis is one of the world's best on grass courts, having had great Wimbledon runs the past two years. Santoro shouldn't cause too much trouble to the Cypriot. Fabrice has put up disappointing results all year and there are rumors of his retirement being imminent at the end of the year. Baghdatis has a big first serve and will use it to set up his strong groundstrokes as finishing points. He will serve a low % like he usually does, but it won't matter. Santoro will enjoy each match he plays from here on out and will probably not win this one.
