Björn Borg says the tennis tide will turn soon for his native Sweden, with the former power possibly producing top players again after the 2012 London Olympics.
“You have a lot of good Spanish players, French players, Argentine players, we are struggling in Sweden”, said the former great at the French Open.
“We are very sad for that, but I'm sure we will be back in top tennis. I would say maybe in five years from now”.
Borg tips Robin Söderling as a Swede to watch, tipping him for a Top 10 future.
But the legend says that developing the junior game is the only way forward.
“We are struggling with the junior tennis in Sweden, but we're working very hard to improve that. They're also struggling in Australia”.
“But I think this goes in a circle. Sweden produced players for many, many, many years, unbelievable players. It's impossible to continue to do that forever”.
“But I'm sure Swedish tennis and Swedish juniors, we will be back. But it's going to take quite a few years.”
