  • French Open day 6: Llodra vs Bolelli

    5/30/08 1:29 AM | David Cox
     - 2008’s been a big year so far for Simone Bolelli. He’s up to a career high ranking of 47 and made his first ATP final earlier this month in Munich beating Seppi and Mathieu before losing a close 3 set final to Fernando Gonzalez

He’s had several good runs in masters series, making the last 16 in Miami and Rome and now this week he’s achieved his best ever performance in a grand slam with two very impressive wins. He took full advantage of Marcos Baghdatis’ rust to dispose of the Cypriot in straight sets and then edged out Juan Martin Del Potro.

Llodra made the last 16 4 years ago and he won’t get a much better chance to repeat that feat than this. After an indifferent few months he surprised a number of people by taking out Berdych in 5 sets and the flashy Frenchman will rate his chances of unsettling Bolelli with his orthodox on style on Phillip Chatrier court

They’ve played once before, back in the challengers in 2006, Llodra winning 6-2, 7-6 in Cherbourg. Bolelli’s returning is his biggest weakness and given Llodra’s liking for serve-volleying, the Italian will need to raise his return game

With either Lapentti or Gulbis awaiting the winner in the last 16, the stakes are pretty high, any one of these 4 players is capable of making the quarters and with that comes huge points.

    Prediction: Llodra in 4
