  • Andy Murray wants hawk-eye on the clay

    5/23/08 8:17 AM | Johan Lindahl
     - Andy Murray has put in a plea for Hawk-eye electronic linecalling to be implemented on the clay of Roland Garros.

While the Briton entertains no hope of the suggestion being followed, the No. 11 says that examining ball marks on the clay in the case of disputed calls is just not good enough anymore.

He pointed to the example of a ballboy accidently running over a mark recently in Hamburg.

“We can only sort the situation out and get decisions as accurate as everywhere else by using Hawk-Eye on the clay,” said Murray, loser of the only match he has ever played at Roland Garros and a career 7-12 on the surface.

“There are often differences of opinion about which mark left on the court is actually the one left by the ball.

”It's a bit odd that the technology is there to be used on television but isn't available to the umpires and players.

“Tennis is moving on and using technology. What is the harm of people trying out Hawk-Eye on clay and seeing how it works. After all, the system is there anyway.”
