  • Ferrer and Verdasco will contest their 2nd round matches on Tuesday in Hamburg

    5/13/08 5:50 AM | Jonathan Morgan
     - David Ferrer, a top 5 clay court player, will make his first appearance since bombing out in Rome's first round while Verdasco will take on Llodra.

    David Ferrer vs. Ivo Minar

A mismatch if there ever was one. Then again, Lopez should have won easily, so nothing is taken for granted in this sport. Ferrer, however, is no Lopez. He is a fantastic player on all surfaces, hence the #5 world ranking. He has a great clay record this year, losing only to Nadal in Monte Carlo and Barcelona. His speed, footwork, devastating forehand and limitless energy should be far too much for Minar.

    Fernando Verdasco vs. Michael Llodra

All all-lefty matchup here. Llodra scored a nice win in the opening round over Argentine Guillermo Canas, but will find a harder time doing it against Verdasco. Llodra will attempt to employ the same ultra-aggresive and serve/volley game he brings to the faster courts. Verdasco should be able to cope with this. Nando's footwork and forehand against Youzhny were simply astounding and if he is anywhere near his level from that match, he should take this. Verdasco also looked strong mentall against Youzhny and didn't self-destruct like he has done so many times in the past. If the sets get tight, he might lose it.
