After his big win over Rafael Nadal in the second round, Juan Carlos Ferrero will play Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka in the third round.
A jubilant Juan Carlos Ferrero will take on the Swiss number two, Stanislas Wawrinka on Thursday. Ferrero takes the place that most expected would be Rafael Nadal. Ferrero beat an ailing Nadal on Wednesday to the shock of many. Wawrinka's second round opponent was Andy Murray, who he beat in straight sets.
Ferrero holds a 3-1 edge lifetime over Wawrinka, however the Swiss won their last meeting in Vienna just last year. Ferrero won their only encounter on clay in Hamburg last year. The surface favors Ferrero, but Wawrinka is no slouch on the dirt either, and his play his improved even from 2007. The Spaniard will have confidence coming into the match, because though Nadal was struggling with blisters on the bottom of his foot, beating him on clay is still quite a boon and something that only Roger Federer could claim in the last four years.
If Ferrero plays with the kind of confidence with which he played against Nadal, he should be able to pull off the win. Ferrero in three.
