  • Moving house may have been a strain for Roddick

     - Andy Roddick may make his season clay court debut this week in Rome under trying circumstances, with reports circulating that the American could have strained a muscle while moving into a New York City flat.

The sixth-seeded American recently bought a place in the city after announcing his engagement to model Brooklyn Decker.

But during the past weeks when the rest of the ATP was getting down to work on the clay in preparation for the May 25 start of the French Open, Roddick had other plans.

"The week after Davis Cup was pretty much spent moving," he told his website. "One day I'm representing my country in Davis Cup in front of 11,000 fans while closing out the French (in North Carolina), and literally the next day, I am vacuuming, moving furniture, scrubbing toilets, and walking things up and down flights of stairs all day.

"For those of you who have ever moved before, can you believe the amount of crap that is actually needed in a small place to function?

"It was the first time I had done it without help (besides Brooklyn of course) from a moving company of some sort… it ended up being a really fun process."

Reports suggest that the "fun" could have resulted in an unnecessary strain as the clay-shy player makes what usually amounts to a token showing on the spring dirt.

Roddick has a first-round Rome bye before playing the winner from best friend Mardy Fish or Frenchman Michael Llodra, whom he beat in the Davis Cup quarter-finals last month.

Roddick reached the Rome semi-finals in his 2002 debut but has never come near to that level of performance again at the Foro Italico.

Please provide a link to the 'reports' that 'suggest' that Roddick is hurting. I think you made this story up (just like that whole Djokovic was out partying before he lost in Miami garbage you printed).
