  • Marat Safin vs. Carlos Berlocq

    4/30/08 3:14 AM | Jonathan Morgan
     - Everyone's favorite Russian headcase Marat is taking every stab at tournaments he can. A few years ago, someone like Berlocq would be a simple draw overlook to Safin, but nowadays, anyone can beat Marat.

Safin's year so far has been absolutely dreadful. He did score a great win over Berdych in Davis Cup in 5 sets, and beat Ferrero in his Valenvia event, but his losses have been far more disappointing than his wins have been impressive.

However, Berlocq is no Nadal either. He hasn't played much on clay this year, but when he has, he hasn't been too good. True, he made the Bermuda challenger semis last week, but his most impressive win was against Spadea, which should tell you a lot of his clay prowess. His best win came against Luis Horna way back in early February in Vina Del Mar in a 3rd set tiebreak.

This match can really go either way and no man has a clear advantage.

Like safin said himself - he should get some credit for still going out there. Mustn't be that easy for him to go out there knowing that everyone has ridden him off already. I think if there is a tournament he can make some headway in this is the one.
