Sam Querrey was the Cinderella story of the event, an American out of his element on clay reaching the quarterfinals. But he was brought back to Earth by the World #3 Novak Djokovic.
The match opened up with Querrey serving bombs. Djokovic seemed to be taken aback for much of the opening set as Querrey's serve, movement, and smart clay court point construction began to manifest itself. However, the tale of the match turned very quickly. Once Djokovic got the break of serve from Querrey in the first set, the American simply went away.
Passive shots, not bothering to move out wide for shots, poorer serving, all contributed to Querrey getting a 6-0 set thrown in his face in the 2nd. Djokovic seemed much at home all match in regards to his serve, never facing a break point the entire match. Djokovic has been solid all week, doing what he needs to do to score victories and doing it in fine fashion. He will take on Roger Federer in the semifinals, a true clash of the titans.
