    Miami day 6 - 2nd quarter previews

    Davydenko vs Bolleli

Davydenko sneaked into the 3rd round by the skin of his teeth, coming from match point down to beat Ernests Gulbis 3-6, 7-6, 7-6. Bolleli’s run to the 3rd round is quite a surprise particularly the ease with which he beat Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-4, 6-3 in the last round. Bolelli (the world no 55) is no stranger to giant killing status though, he reached the semis in Zagreb last month. In Indian Wells, the Italian fell to the serve-machine that is John Isner in rd1, predictably in a 3rd set breaker while Davydenko made the 4th round before getting blown off court by Mardy Fish. They’ve never played before but the problem Bolelli will have is that he plays a similar baseline game to Davydenko, but the Russian just does it that little bit better

    Ancic vs Monaco

Ancic’s dramatic recovery against Andy Murray has been the talk of the tournament over the weekend and he’s now got to do it all over again against world no 19 Juan Monaco. Based on Monaco’s showing against Ryan Sweeting, Ancic has an excellent chance, the Argentine was some way below his best and very lucky to progress in straight sets; Sweeting blowing a 5-2 second set lead. Monaco has one of the biggest double-handed backhands in the game, most of his success has come on clay and slowish hard. In Indian Wells he was outlasted at this stage by the gritty Canas. Ancic has the ability to power him off the court but will need a better serving performance than against Murray, in the 2nd set he only made 32% 1st serves and only started to pick it up again towards the end of the match. Expect the Croat to look to pressurize the Monaco 2nd serve and look to get in as much as possible.
