    3/18/08 10:56 AM | James Munoz
     - After the win over Robin Söderling our writer James Munoz was able to get an interview with Richard Gasquet.

Richard Gasquet just defeated Robin Soderling 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of the Pacific Life Open and here are the interview with him.

How satisfied were you with your serving today?

    - I served well. It was key to the match, it was important, especially with the wind. He served not so strong with the conditions, so it was good for me. He served well and I return into the court, it was great match for me and I am happy to win this match

You won 90% of your first serve points and served 68% in the first set. Was it the wind that really affected your serve in the second set?

    - Yeah I don’t care for the wind. I practiced a lot with it when I was younger so it’s not such a big problem for me. I think I played better than him in these conditions. It was good for me so he didn’t serve so well, maybe it is his best stroke so for me it was okay. He didn’t serve so well so maybe it was the clue to the match today.

He (Soderling) actually served 61% first serve for the match, so I think your returning had a bigger effect than just the wind.

    - Yeah, well I returned well it was definitely important. I think I am playing good, I practice a lot before this tournament so I think I can play a great tournament in Indian Wells, so I will try to do my best. You never know maybe I will play great here. I will try for sure to play a great tournament.

It also must be satisfying to get your first win over Soderling on hard courts?

    - Yeah, yeah, it’s true…

    Especially outdoors rather than indoors?

    - Yeah, maybe he is playing better indoors. Especially with these winds, it is tough to play in these conditions. For me it is not so big problem. It was a good win against him.

Can we look forward to you doing a double, winning both singles and doubles?

    - Singles is more important for me for sure, but I can train a lot, I can practice a lot with volleys, serves and return. It is good exercise for me.

    How did you like Shanghai?

    - It was a great tournament for me. It was incredible to play with Federer, Nadal, to finish in the top 8. I will try this year to do the same, why not go to Shanghai another time.

Andy Roddick said he will not be competing in the Olympics, will you?

    - I will definitely be competing in Olympic Games for sure. Difficult with the jet lag, but it is very important to me to play for France.

You have Davis Cup next month.

    - I could play this match with Roddick and Blake; for sure it can be a great weekend for us. I think we can win, they are the favorites for sure, they are great players but maybe we can win there. We will try to do it for sure.
