American Robby Ginepri, ranked number 91 in the world, had a terrible year in 2007; he did not make it past the round of 16 once and was even forced to play a Challenger event at the beginning of 2008.
Ginepri did not qualify to play the Australian Open, but since then, the story has changed completely. He has reached three consecutive semifinals in the hardcourt events leading up to Indian Wells, and posted impressive wins over the likes of Marcos Baghdatis and James Blake.
World number 19 Carlos Moya has had mixed results so far in 2008. He made a clay final in Costa do Sauipe and a hard court semifinal at the pre-Australian Open event in Chennai. Otherwise, the Spaniard has had poor showings. He bombed out of the Australian Open in the first round and has only played on clay since then. The two players have met twice in their careers and have split the wins. Ginepri won their last encounter at the Cincinnati Masters event in 2005. Ginepri in two.
