Red hot clay courters Nicolas Almagro and Jose Acasuso lead the charge in the quarterfinals of the Abierto Mexicano Telmex.
Marcel Granollers-Pujol vs. Jose Acasuso
Spaniard Marcel Granollers-Pujol has been quietly working his way through the draw in Acapulco. He defeated Mexican wild card Bruno Rodriguez in the first round and had a great win over compatriot Albert Montanes in round two. Now, for the first time, he will face Argentina's Jose Acasuso ranked number 46 in the world. Acasuso reached the finals in Buenos Aires and had another quarterfinal result in Vina del Mar. Acasuso has already beaten two tough opponents in Oscar Hernandez and Guillermo Canas. He should win this match comfortably. Acasuso in 2.
Agustin Calleri vs Luis Horna
For the fourth time in 2008, these doubles partners meet each other in the main draw of an ATP tournament. Horna was victorious in Vina del Mar, Calleri took the matches at the Australian Open and Buenos Aires. Calleri leads the head-to-head 5-3, and is ranked considerably higher at 47 than Horna, 131. Both men have had impressive wins in the previous round; Calleri beat Juan Ignacio Chela (5) and Horna beat Juan Monaco (3). Although their rankings suggest otherwise, they come in on equal footing. Horna in 3.
Nicolas Almagro (6) vs. Nicolas Massu
Chile's Nicolas Massu, who has had disastrous results in 2008, seems to have finally found his game. He trounced number 2 seed Carlos Moya in surprisingly easy straight sets on Wednesday and will come into this quarterfinal with confidence. Nicolas Almagro will not be an easy opponent. He is 10-1 on clay for the season and has already thrashed Massu 6-3, 6-2 in the first round of Costa Do Sauipe a couple weeks ago. Massu is playing much better now than he was then, but Almagro should still be able to get the win. Almagro in 3.
