The top seeds take the court in round two of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel. In action are David Nalbandian, Carlos Moya and Guillermo Canas.
David Nalbandian (1) vs Santiago Ventura
David Nalbandian has beaten Spaniard Santiago Ventura the only other time they've played, at the 2005 Australian Open. The Argentine is ranked 8 in the world compared to Ventura's 68, making him an obvious pick over his opponent. The problem is that Nalbandian has already admitted that he is feeling fatigued after winning Buenos Aires last week. The outcome of the match will depend entirely on whether Nalbandian has enough energy for one more match. Nalbandian in 2.
Nicloas Massu vs Carlos Moya (2)
In 2007, Nicolas Massu enjoyed good results on clay, even reaching the final in Vina del Mar before going down to Luis Horna. This year, he has struggled mightily to even make it out of the first round; his ranking his slipped all the way down to 96 in the world. Unfortunately for him, he has run into an in-form Carlos Moya. The Spaniard has made a semifinal (in Chennai) and a final (in Costa Do Sauipe) already in 2008. Moya simply has too much game for Massu, and an early round exit in Buenos Aires last week assures that he is playing on fresh legs. Moya in 2 easy sets.
Jose Acasuso vs Guillermo Canas (4)
Guillermo Canas and Jose Acasuso have met just once in their careers, last year in Basel. Canas won that match in comfortable straight sets. Ordinarily, Canas would would be the favorite in this match-up, but he played a marathon three set first round match last night against Carlos Berlocq, taking three hours and eleven minutes to finally win. Acasuso won't be standing on the freshest legs either; he was beaten in tough three set final by David Nalbandian. The outcome will be determined by who is more fit. Canas in 3.
