Buenos Aires - Tuesday's first round matches feature some great contests as Filippo Volandri, Carlos Moya and Nicolas Almagro take the court.

Spaniard Nicolas Almagro has started the clay season off with a bang, winning the title in Costa Do Sauipe last week. His opponent is the 102 ranked Martin Vassallo Arguello player profile" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #000;">Martin Vassallo Arguello player profile" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #000;">Martin Vassallo Arguello player profile" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #000;">Martin Vassallo Arguello. Vassallo Arguello had a good season in 2007, where he reached his first ATP tour semifinal in Vina del Mar. He has not fared as well in 2008, having only won 1 match (against Olivier Patience in Vina del Mar) thus far. They have met twice on the ATP tour and twice in the Challengers. Almagro owns a 3-1 advantage over the Argentine, including a win last year at this very tournament. Almagro should win this comfortably.
Jose Acasuso vs. Carlos Moya (3)
Ordinarily, perennial top 20 and current 13 ranked Carlos Moya would be considered the favorite for this match. He holds a 2-1 lifetime edge over Acasuso, and is generally in better form. However, last week, Moya made his way through a difficult draw in Costa Do Sauipe, eventually making the final. Each of his matches, including Sunday's final which he lost to Nicolas Almagro, were three set affairs. Carlos Moya is going to be tired. Jose Acasuso has already made the quarterfinals of Vina del Mar this year, losing to Pablo Cuevas. His tennis is not what it was in 2006, but it should be good enough to snag the win.
Filippo Volandri (8) vs. Nicolas Massu
Filippo Volandri just had an excellent tournament at the Brasil Open last week, where he lost a close match in the quarterfinals to eventual champion Nicolas Almagro. He is playing very well at the moment. Nicolas Massu, his opponent, actually beat Volandri the last time they met at the 2007 Monte Carlo tournament. But Massu is not the same player this year that he was last year. He has, in fact, had three straight first round losses at the Australian Open, Vina del Mar and again last week in Costa Do Sauipe. Volandri in straight sets.
