     - As the clay courts of South America heat up with action and the insanity of the Euro indoors sizzles, San Jose gets its own fire roasting.

This tournament will mark the return of world #6 Andy Roddick, who has only played one match, Davis Cup, since his 5 set loss to Kohlschreiber back in the Aussie Open. He was supposed to face Vinnay Ice Spadea in the first round, but he had to withdraw due to a foot injury. He will play big serving Chris Guccione instead.

Last week's Cinderella Kei (pronounced “Kay”) Nishikori will play Diego Hartfield in the first round. It will be interesting to see how he has handled this all. Sam Querrey is the 7th seed here and looks to have an easy first round match before a potential Mardy Fish encounter.

Tommy Haas will look to bounce back from his first round exit last week here as well. He is the #3 seed. The 205 cm John Isner will make his return at this event, his first tournament since the Australian Open. Donald “Racket Javelin” Young will play Hyung-Taik Lee in the first round.

Crowd favorite Radek Stepanek will be worming his way into San Jose. His big serve, touch game, and fun antics will surely put on a show as he gets through a few wins here. Robby Ginepri, Michael Russell, and Sam Warburg are a few more Americans looking to get into the picture, but dont expect them to do THAT well. James Blake is at the bottom of the draw as the #2 seed, and young lefty Jesse Levine, a top prospect will look to do battle with Steve Darcis of Belgium, last summer's sweetheart on the Euro clay swing.

All in all, should be a fun event.
