Novak Djokovic showed no signs of the dizziness and nausea which affected him during the weekend’s Davis Cup tie, brushing aside qualifier Ivan Dodig 6-1, 6-4. Dodig settled more in set 2 and made a match of it but the result was never in doubt and in all honesty it was almost up to Djokovic, how many games the Croat got.
Djokovic looked like he was using it as an extra training session, fine-tuning his game for the indoor season, working on attacking the second serve, getting into the net more. For him, the serious stuff starts today against Gilles Simon who was also never tested against a wildcard.
8th seed Paul-Henri Mathieu had to withstand a serving barrage from Marc Gicquel to progress 7-6(7), 7-6(4) on Monday. Between them, the pair smashed down 20 aces but Mathieu’s superior returning gave him more chances and despite converting just 1 of 6 break points, the pressure told in the tiebreaks. He plays a similar-style opponent now in Michael Llodra who was always in control during a 6-2, 7-6 win over Andreas Seppi. However, Llodra is slightly more unorthodox than Gicquel with his leftie sliced serve and flatter shots
Andy Murray looked very rusty in his 6-4, 6-4 win against Jesse Huta-Galung. In particular, the Scot’s serve looked out-of-sorts and had Huta-Galung not been so inconsistent, Murray would have been broken more than just twice.

Did you know that... James Blake suffered from severe scoliosis as a teenager. He had to wear a back brace for 18 hours of the day because of it.
