With the rain backlogging the matches, all 16 remaining players will compete on Thursday, a compelling day for tennis fans.
Michael Russell vs. Robby Ginepri
Ginepri will look to repeat his performance in the first round with another win here in the 2nd round. He has had a variety of bad luck and injuries the past year or so, but looked sharp in his first round match. Russell is also trying to rebound from some bad luck and losses recently. The 2 played each other in a 2002 Challenger match in Burbank California, but that match is about as relevent as a Tyranosauraus Rex in 2008. Ginepri is the favorite.
Kei Nishikori vs. Amer Delic
Delic will face another 18 year old in his 2nd round match in Nishikori. I wouldnt be surprised to see Nishikori take out Delic. He is a very talented youngster and had a great run in Indianapolis last summer. Delic will hope to not fall behind 0-5 in the first set as he did today against Young, as you can bet Nishikori won't waste such chances.
Vincent Spadea vs. Gilles Muller
Spadea is a great fan of the Delray event. He lives close by and even is a supporter of the local high school tennis team. He has made the finals here once before and made the semis that last few years, each time losing to the eventual champion. He will have both the crowd and the upper hand in this match against Muller.
James Blake vs. Paul Capdeville
With a few upsets, Blake has gone from a prohibitive favorite to a “There-is-no-reason-you-should-not-win-this-tournament” favorite. Capdeville should not slow the Blake train at all. They have played once before, in a dead rubber in Davis Cup a few years ago, but its relevence is close to zero. Expect Blake to come out gunning and try to finish this one fast, before the rains come again.
Also in action are Sam Querrey, Guillermo-Garcia Lopez (who beat Agassi here in 2006), Mardy Fish, Ivan Navarro, Bobby Reynolds, Diego Hartfield, Igor Kunitsyn, and the beast Max Mirnyi.
