All eyes will be on this second round match, as former French Open finalist Guillermo Coria attempts to come back from injury.
Filippo Volandri (5) vs. Guillermo Coria
Coria has a recurring shoulder injury that he's been struggling with for over a year. He also quite famously struggles with his serve. In his first round match against Italian qualifier Francesco Aldi, Coria donated sixteen double faults, twelve of which occurred in the second set. The good news for Coria is that he won anyway.
The amazing thing about Coria is that he is quite capable of winning matches even when he hits twenty double faults. The hope in the Coria camp is that more match play will work the service yips out and that he won't have to struggle so much on his serve. Volandri is not an easy opponent. He beat Roger Federer on clay in Rome last year before losing in the semi finals to Fernando Gonzalez. He is far more match tough than Coria, who won his first match in ten months in the first round on Tuesday. In order for Coria to have a chance, he is going to need to contain the double faults at least somewhat. While Volandri isn't a particularly big server (which is good news for Coria, whose shaky service games require that he break serve often), he is still proficient enough that Coria will have to hold his own serve in order to win.
Despite the ranking difference (Volandri is ranked 41 to Coria who has actually lost his official singles ranking), Coria might actually have a chance to win this match. Volandri has not played particularly well since the second half of 2007. If Coria returns well, and manages to hold serve at least some of the time, he'll win the match. Coria in three.

yes. Coria has a protected ranking of 105. This is different than an official ATP ranking. On the ATP website last month he was listed as #1145 in the world. This month it's 0.

Did you know that... Lleyton Hewitt won an ATP-title in Adelaide 1998, ranked as number 550 in the world.

I'm pretty sure Coria has a protected ranking of 105. Seen it in several articles.
Can someone confirm?
