A win but perhaps a loss as well for Juan Monaco. He won the semifinal but might need to withdraw from the final due to injury.
Juan Monaco defeated Santiago Ventura 6-2, 6-4 in one hour and fifteen minutes, and was poised to take on the winner of Fernando Gonzalez and Pablo Cuevas in the finals on Sunday. Unfortunately for Monaco, he tore ligaments in his ankle playing in a doubles match following his semifinal victory.
The extent of his injury is not yet known, but for now he has pulled out of this tournament. Monaco was one of the favorites to win the tournament. The Monaco team will be hoping that the injury is not as serious as first suspected. He won the clay tournament in Buenos Aires in 2007, and will lose those ranking points if he is unable to compete.
