Fognini and Ventura through to quarterfinals after tough matches and 15 service breaks in one match.
Fognini def. Marrero 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-3
Fabio Fognini has advanced to his first ever ATP even quarterfinal with a win over David Marrero, the Spanish qualifier. Fognini took the first set realtively comfortably, converting 2 of his 6 break point opportunities and generally looking more at ease than his opponent. In the second set, however, Marrero was more mentally tough. There were no breaks of serve at all, though both had numerous chances. Marrero was the slighly more composed during the tie break; he just squeaked the second set away from the Italian. It was not to be for Marrero though. He did not get another break point opportunity in the match. The Spaniard's serve was broken once in the third set - and that's all it took for Fognini to win the match.
Ventura def. Roitman 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(4)
In a great mess of a match, Santiago Ventura finally managed to beat Sergio Roitman in three sets. The match had a staggering 15 service breaks and Ventura, who was up 3 breaks in the third set got broken back each time he served for the match. He was also up 5-1 in the tiebreak and nearly bobbled away that lead as well. The first set was well played by Roitman, who staved off Ventura's only break point against him; that would be the only highlight of the match. Next up for Ventura is Fabio Fognini.

Did you know that... Thomas Johansson did not have to face any of the top-10 players when he won the Australian Open in 2002.
