Both Cuevas and Acasuso won their last match in good form and it should be a good match between these two on Friday.
Pablo Cuevas def. Fernando Verdasco - Pablo Cuevas has been in stunning form this week, beating Coria in a tough 3 setter in the first round, and now sending Fernando Verdasco home here in the 2nd round. He hit his backhand very well all match, faced 6 break points and saved them all. Meanwhile, Verdasco was struggling on his serve as Cuevas was getting into just about every one of his service games. He broke Verdasco once in the first and once in the 2nd set to win it.
Jose Acasuso def. Daniel Gimeno-Traver - Not a surprise here at all, as Jose “Chucho” Acasuso is a fine clay courter and won this match rather easily against the Spanish qualifier. He has yet to lose a set thus far, and will find the match with Cuevas much more difficult.
Other matches in the top half today have Fernando Gonzalez and Diego Hartfield facing off, and Carlos Berlocq vs. defending champ, Luis Horna. The winners of those matches will play each other in the Quarterfinals.
