Top seed Fernando Gonzalez advances in sloppy match, while defending champ Luis Horna takes out the 5 seed Agustin Calleri.
Luis Horna def. Agustin Calleri
Horna simply outclassed Calleri in this match, a high quality affair. Horna didnt lose serve at any point in the match, saving all 4 break points faced. Calleri didn't play badly at all, Horna was just that much better. He has a load of points to defend this week so he will need to be sharp. He faces Carlos Berlocq in the next round, a very winnable match.
Fernando Gonzalez def. Paul Capdeville
An ugly match here, as both players came out rather flat. There were 8 total breaks in the match. This all-Chilean first round match was nothing much to look at, but Gonzalez pulled through playing badly. He will face the Argentine Diego Hartfield in the next round, who won the all-Argentine first round against Mariano Zabaleta. Gonzalez should take that one as well.
